I was introduced to the remote, impoverished village of Anupshahr, India by a patient in my Internal Medicine practice in the U.S. My patient, an enthusiastic and dedicated volunteer, who was building the village’s only toilets implored me to accompany him on a visit to this place in poverty-stricken northern India.

Dr. Vijaya Arun Kumar is the Associate Director of the Global Health Section and IEM Fellowship at Wayne State University (WSU) . After undergoing his residency at Alleghany General Hospital, he completed an EM clinical research fellowship at Wayne State University and then completed a Masters in Public Health degree from the University of Michigan.
